Jennie Mahaffey, MD

Dr. Jennie Mahaffey joined the Erlanger team in 2013, following several years in private practice. In addition to her role as CMO of Erlanger Behavioral Health Hospital, she is also the medical director of behavioral health for Erlanger Health System.
A native of Chattanooga, TN, Dr. Mahaffey earned her medical degree from the University of Tennessee Health Science Center. She is board-certified in psychiatry. Dr. Mahaffey completed her psychiatric residency training through the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
Dr. Mahaffey’s work at Erlanger includes developing integrative programs in both the emergency room and outpatient practices, as well as driving policies to improve outcomes for patients with behavioral health issues who enter the Erlanger system. From concept to groundbreaking, she was closely involved in the planning stages of the new behavioral health hospital.
As part of a work group organized in collaboration between the Tennessee Hospital Association and the Tennessee Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services, Dr. Mahaffey assisted in developing the psychiatric treatment protocol that is currently used by emergency rooms throughout Tennessee. She has also represented Erlanger with great distinction within the regional psychiatric community.
